August 2008 - Tandent Adds Computational Photography Laboratory to its Knoxville, Tennessee LocationTandent Vision Science has expanded its research laboratory in Knoxville, Tennessee to included a Computational Photography Laboratory. The new laboratory uses advanced computational photographic methods to generate data for Tandent's computer vision research.

Tandent Presents New Reflection Model at CVPR 2008
Tandent Vision Science presents its paper, “A Bi-Illuminant Dichromatic Reflection Model for Understanding Images,” authored by our own Bruce Maxwell, Richard Mark Friedhoff, and Casey Smith at the 2008 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in Anchorage, Alaska. The paper presents a new model for understanding the appearance of objects that exhibit both body and surface reflection under realistic illumination.
June 2008 - Tandent's Andrew Stein Publishes Paper at CVPR 2008Tandent Vision Science congratulates our own Andrew Stein on the publication of his article, “Towards Unsupervised Whole-Object Segmentation: Combining Automated Matting with Boundary Detection,” at the 2008 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in Anchorage, Alaska.

Tandent Vision Science opened a Machine Learning Laboratory facility in Portland, Oregon. Bart Nabbe formerly with Intel Research, is located at the Portland laboratory.
February 2008 - Tandent Opens Systems Development Center Adjacent to Carnegie Mellon UniversityTandent Vision Science has opened the Systems Development Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, adjacent to Carnegie Mellon University. The Pittsburgh laboratory focuses on integrated systems and will foster collaboration with consulting faculty and staff at Carnegie Mellon University.

March 2007 - Drew Bagnell, Professor at CMU, Joins Tandent as Consulting Research Scientist
Tandent Vision Science is pleased to announce that Drew Bagnell has joined the company as a Consulting Research Scientist. Bagnell is currently faculty appointed in the Robotics Institute and Machine Learning Department of Carnegie Mellon University and develops technology with the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) and the Auton Lab within those institutions. He is a leading researcher in the field of machine learning.

Headed by Besma Abidi, our Knoxville facility focuses on data acquisition and real-world benchmarking of Tandent algorithms and systems.
February 2007 - Pietro Perona, Professor at Caltech, Joins Tandent as Consulting Research ScientistTandent Vision Science is pleased to announce that Pietro Perona has joined the company as a Consulting Research Scientist. Perona is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, where he is the Chair of the Computation and Neural Systems Department. His research focuses on computational aspects of vision, including early vision, autonomous navigation, shape reconstruction, and visual pattern recognition.
April 2006 - Kristin Dana, Associate Professor at Rutgers University, Joins Tandent as Consulting Research ScientistTandent Vision Science is pleased to announce that Kristin Dana has joined the company as a Consulting Research Scientist. Dana is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Her research interests include computer vision and graphics, with an emphasis on pattern recognition and computational models of object appearance, pattern analysis and machine intelligence.
